From 7 to July 31, 2011 MondoPOP International Gallery presents some of the best street art works of of the past few years,with reviewed prices.

While the street art grows reaching prohibitive quotations, MondoPOP presents an exhibition where the best Italian and international names are still affordable.

A new stage of the Superstar Urban Project, an appointment established in the national artistic overview, started at Museo Madre in Naples in 2009, reconfirmed in 2010 and that is now becoming itinerant.

A journey into the Urban Art universe to find the roots of a form of expression that has simple origins despite the mainstream trend.

Street parade show displays Italian and international artists that have been making a tangible contribution to the definition of New Art, and works at an affordable price.

The opportunity to buy original works for all the current’s fans.

This July, Jon Burgerman and Heliumcowboy artspace will set up the Lossy Data Lab (NY 2009) again. For another time, Jon will explore the boundaries of art and scientific research in a neo-dadaistic manner:

"The Lossy Data Lab has had to relocate and move it’s research into botany after a lot of the data from NYC seemed in conclusive and corrupted. The lab also ran out of money. It felt studying plant life, observing new species and creating its own hybrid forms would be a better use of its merge resources. Also, through pure chance and accident the lab has discovered some of the plants it’s cultivating have special medicinal properties. We’d like to state that the lab is in no way going to purely focus it’s energies growing and selling such specimens to the down trodden and hedonistic thrill seekers of society." (Jon Burgerman)

“The Lossy Botany Lab” is the second solo exhibition of the young british artist in Hamburg that brings together a whole series of new works including soft sculp-tures, paintings, drawings as well as a botanical installation on site.

And they need your help! Bring your plants to Jon!

Donators will receive a small yet valuable gift from the president of the Lab, Mr Jon Burgerman, as a thank you at the opening gala event on the evening of July 1st. House plants, cacti, small shrubs, potted herbs, sticks with leaves on them, will all be gratefully accepted.

Just drop them off at the Lossy Data Lab HQ: heliumcowboy artspace, Bäckerbreitergang 73-75,UNTIL TUESDAY, June 29 the latest! The earlier the better!

Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Donna Regina, Naples

MADRE and Napoli COMICON present Urban Superstar Show Festival, first edition of the first Festival that a Contemporary Art Museum dedicates in Europe to Underground Art, Pop Surrealism, Lowbrow Art and Urban Art, which are to say the new artistic currents which better represent the contemporaneity.

Italian artist David Vecchiato has mustered lots and lots of fellows from all over the world into Naples MADRE for 4 collective exhibitions for the year 2010 and will keep on gathering, in his capacity as curator, leading figures of an art movement which is destined to become the new Contemporary Art avant-garde.

Vecchiato’s aim is to propose a critical order among different artistic trends.

The exhibition opening the Festival, on May, the 1st, 2010, is Back from Black. From bright Pop to dark Underground. And back.

Seven other exhibitions will be following through 2010 and 2011 editions:

which will take up the whole area of the MADRE Museum dedicated to the Festival till the end of 2011.

Such kind of signs were in vogue from the ’60‘s till the ’80‘s but after that, as soon as the wannabe Pop and Street Art heirs, evoked through the works of the new artists generations, were getting closer and closer to the world of cartoons, comics, tattoos and those ways of expression which are mostly considered subcultures, the official world of Art blamed them for trivialization and in fact censored them by not showing their works any longer.

Thus those artists, sons and daughters of pop culture and diy logics, have grown inside underground circuits and have made best use of both web and street in order to build outstanding commercial success, finding parallel ways to the institutional Art market system and to those galleries which used to shrug them off.

That is how a subversive visual culture was born and has spread itself as a virus.

Not a vain rebellion towards the world of Art, but a parallel vision of art making, based on guerrilla promotion and marketing tactics, which pass through conceiving ideas for illustrations, cartoons, t-shirts, art toys, different kinds of objects, clothes and fashion accessories.

Often on the initiative of these artists, specialized magazines and galleries have grown up. But also firms producing gadgets of this Art that both young and old people love, and that seems to have no needs of critics to be perceived.

The initial lack of a constructive dialog with critics and official market let artists grow expressing in complete freedom. Lots of them gained visibility by painting walls and using street as gallery.

In these last few years this underground movement has started to revenge its role in Contemporary Art, and such Art system that used to shrugg it off, from galleries to museums, from Biennials to great fairs, has started to court such names, so popular nowadays, opening its salons doors to them.

In Italy, after some specialized galleries experiences, the collective exhibition Urban Superstar Show 2009, curated by David Vecchiato, presented last year in the Southern Italy most important Museum, was the first proper signal towards this changement, letting this new Contemporary Art exhibit itself in a museum. Other similar exhibitions presented in other museums and other Italian institutional places soon followed that event.

Urban Superstar Festival 2010, by having the same name, wants to carry on with the work of cultural diffusion started with the collective Urban Superstar Show 2009, offering a much richer panoramical view over this contemporary artists wave and sorting out the different artistic currents which by the way profusely draw from the same inspirational well, Pop Art above all, by introducing everyday elements which want to be universally recognizable and understandable.

In the artists and works selection, David Vecchiato highlights how many of the last decades comics authors have stylistically influenced Pop Surrealist and Lowbrow artists by gathering them together into the Back to Black exhibition.

The ascendancy of underground comic fathers such as Robert Crumb and Gilbert Shelton over Lowbrow and Pop Surrealist painters is clearly underlined throughout the exhibition, as far as that of their inspirers Basil Wolverton, Harvey Kurtzman and the authors of the American satire magazine MAD.

Earlier in timeline we then have Fleischer’s Studios cartoon style (Betty Boop, Popeye), which suggested an aesthetics among pop iconography, scary themes and surreal scenarios that we find in several works of these artists.

But actually the exhibition doesn’t neglet neither the influence of more recent comic artists such as Jamie Hewlett, Tank Girl’s and Gorillaz’ dad, Daniel Clowes, Italians like Andrea Pazienza and Bad Trip, nor authors like Dave Cooper and Jim Woodring, who then ended up in painting as well.

The aim of the whole Festival is also that of setting these artistic currents free from aesthetic generalization.

Urban Superstar Show Festival wants to clarify the origins and the stylistic divisions, thus the currents of this Underground or Lowbrow Art, or this “low profile” Art that, as it’s analysed in Vecchiato’s writing, is actually the only one able to tell with extreme clearness about the juxtapposition between fiction and reality in which Western Countries are lately living.

A series of references that goes from stylization ability of ancient eastern art to transalpine Renaissance of Bosch and Bruegel, from Warhol’s and Niki De Saint Phalle’s Pop Art to Haring’s necessary synthesis, up to Writing, lead us to a pathway among the artworks which shows where those different styles and trends of this new international Contemporary Art come from.

First exhibition concept is to give a panoramical view over these artistic currents. The following exhibitions then bring into focus each single direction, in order to let people widely understand and have a critical idea of this new Contemporary Art.

Considering that this artists wave owe much to the web, and that is through the web that it has been contaminated and could grow fast without territorial boundaries, it’ll be by means of the blog-in-progress of the Urban Superstar Show Festival artists, www.urbansuperstar.com

Urban Superstar Show guest artists will face Napoli COMICON Festival guest artists in a fight to the last brush on a panel more than 20 metres long.

Giant Robot is proud to host Adventures in Lollipopland, a show featuring new works by Buff Monster. In Adventures in Lollipopland, Buff Monster is celebrating "the duality of cute and ice-cream-inspired traditional imagery, along with heavy-metal-inspired darker imagery. Some pieces are cute and fun; others are darker and more Satanic." In contrast to his last show at GRNY, which featured kaiju-inspired characters along with a lot of writing in kanji, he considers this to be a neo traditional show. Pieces are slated to include 3 16" x 16" paintings, 30 10" x 10" wood panels, and some small, fun 7" x 7" pieces, as well as custom toys.

The show runs April 17, 2010 - May 19, 2010.

Francesca Ghermandi was born in Bologna in 1964, where she lives and works. Francesca begin her activity as comic artist and illustrator after have attended to a comic course by the Valvoline group and Andrea Pazienza. Her first strips appeared on Reporter, Il Manifesto, Frigidaire, Sortiez le Chienne, Echo de Savannes in France, El Vibora in Spain and La Dolce Vita. Then her work has been published by Cyborg, Comic Art, Il Grifo, Linus, Mano, Strapazin (Switzerland), Streepburger (Slovenia), Kitchen Sink Press, Rubber Blanket, Graphic Classic, Comic Journal (USA). With the Editor Phoenix she has published her last work Pastille, edited also with Editions du Seuil (Francia), Sinsentido (Spagna). Her art have been exhibited in Italy as abroad in several group shows. As illustrator she worked for a long time with italian and international advertising agencies (as Saatchi & Saatchi), with Swatch, Rai, 62° Biannual of Cinema of Venice. In her long career she won several national and international prizes.

Matti Hagelberg (1964, Finland) started his professional career in 1992 with an 8-page self-published mini comic "B.E.M. 1 Marsin Sankari (the hero of Mars"). The B.E.M. series has now reached #13 Kova Länsi, Kreegah Bundolo, Finland. In 2004 Mr Hagelberg finished the 200-page B.E.M.#12 the biography of the former Finnish president Urho Kekkonen. Mr Matti Hagelberg has been widely published in various anthologies all over Europe and in USA. He’s currently working on the third part of the trilogy begun by Holmenkollen and continued by Kekkonen and will come out in finnish year 2010. His works have been exhibited in various group exhibitions. Most recently in Nordiska Akvarellmuseet in Sweden and Cartoonmuseum in Basel, Switzerland. Apart from comics Mr Matti Hagelberg has written an libretto for an opera based on his comics in association with Karla Loppi, "Marsin mestarilaulajat (mastersingers of Mars, 2000)", composed by Kimmo Hakola. Since 1998 he’s been teaching comics in the University of Art and Design. Mr Matti Hagelberg lives and works in Helsinki.

Art Director-with Dynit, one of the most important publishing houses of the Japanese cartoon and comic books, he works also as an illustrator for Japan. From this location and the reputation it follows that he was invited to numerous meetings also outside Italy in Croatia, Germany, England, Belgium, Holland, Spain, France, Bosnia, Switzerland, USA, painting together with representatives of major world Writing. Paper Resistance start to illustrate in 2001. He was among the founders of the collective inguine.net and the magazine "inguine mah!gazine". Besides continuing to draw, is currently one of the leaders of the project ORIGINAL CULTURES (www.originalcultures.org) and production ZOOO (www.zooo.org).His works have been published in various magazines and fanzines, both Italian and foreign.Often his illustrations were used to record production and concert posters.In 2005 he released "25 disegni" a split illustrated book, divided in half with Squaz. His drawings are in the books "Bigger than hip-hop" by U_net and" With blood in the eyes "of George Jackson, published by the italian publishing house Agenzia X. In 2008, he released "Handcuffs" a historic trip / illustrated on handcuffs. He lives in Bologna.

Alessandro Maida aka Scarful was born in 1968. He is a designer and artist from Rome. After the degree in Architecture and Design he begin to develop an interest for everything concernes graphic/illustration and lettering. He starts to work as graphic creating the Hateful Graphic Vandals colletive with some writers/artists of the roman scene in 1995. In this period we have the first productions under the name Scarful. With the artists Joe, Nico, Pane and Stand he funds the WHY STYLE group and partecipate to several exhibitions and events since 2003. He created artworks for bands such as Zu, Antiyou, Truceklan, Dimension X, Ius Primae Noctis, Ardecore and many others. He is art director for many italian communication agency. He collaborated for VNGRD, Carhartt, Nike Streetwear, SlamTrick.

Since she was a baby, she begin to draw and paint worlds full of light and sea, with “Happiness” by Al Bano and Romina as sound track. The song became soon her favourite song and her personal hymn. After the studies at the Fine Art Accademy of Paris, Zelda takes the decision to go to her dreams city: Rome. The mitic and mysterious city, known only through Fellini’s movies and her italian teacher’s old diapos. In Rome Zelda studies at the all’Accademia di Moda e Costume (Fashion and Costume Accademy) and at the International Comics School. Came back in Paris, Zelda works hard, studing at the Sorbona University and exposing in several galleries. After the graduation at University, a glorious career as italian teacher in her douce France is waitig for her. But Zelda flies back inRome, where art became her only road.

Zelda fin da piccola comincia a disegnare appassionatamente mondi pieni di luce e mare, accompagnata dalle note immortali di “Felicità” di Al Bano e Romina, che diventa il suo inno personale. Terminata l’Accademia delle Belle Arti prende la decisione di partire per la volta dell‘Italia, Roma città dei suoi sogni, conosciuta soltanto attraverso i film di Fellini e le diapositive logorate dal tempo della professoressa di italiano. Nella Città Eterna, Zelda studia all’Accademia di Moda e Costume e alla Scuola Internazionale di Comics. Tornata a Parigi si getta a capofitto nel lavoro, dividendo il suo tempo tra lo studio all’Università della Sorbona e l’attività artistica, esponendo in varie gallerie. Laureatasi si aprono per lei le porte di una gloriosa professione di insegnante di italiano nella Douce France, ma Zelda scappa a gambe levate. Tornata a Roma, la pittura diventa la sua unica strada.

Fidia Falaschetti is Fidia, an amatuer superhero who lost his instuctions book. He worked for several years as visual/graphic designer, photographer and illustrator, collaborating with many fashion and communication brands. Since some years, he approached to contemporary art with his distintive way. Art is a need, and his view of society is bizzarre, his characters wear the costumes of icons of our times. Artist‘s universe is burlesque and comic,crossing ordinary life and speaks to it in a POP-ular dimension. He is Art teacher in schools and in Macerata University. Fidia‘s art has been exhibited in Italy and abroad ( Japan, UK, USA) and he has been guest of live performance in Japan and Usa.

Fidia Falaschetti é Fidia (appunto), un “super eroe dilettante” che ha smarrito le istruzioni per l’uso. Trascorsi gli “enti” come visual/graphic designer, fotografo e illustratore, collaborando con importanti marchi nel campo della moda e della comunicazione, all’ingresso negli “enta” si tuffa nella comunicazione dell’arte contemporanea. Per lui arte è sinonimo di necessità espressiva ed i suoi characters indossano i costumi delle icone del nostro tempo. L’universo di Fidia è talvolta burlesco e comico, il suo mondo attraversa il quotidiano e con lo stesso dialoga in una dimensione POP-olare e onirica dove anche una sensazione ha la sua battuta da dichiarare. Lavora come docente di Arte e Comunicazione nelle scuole e presso l‘ Università degli studi di Macerata . Ha esposto in Italia e all‘estero ( Giappone, Usa, Inghilterra),invitato anche a realizzare live performance in Giappone e USA.

Zoe Lacchei grew up in a small town near Rome. After high school, rather than attending regular academic courses, she focused on the subjects she loved the most, such as human anatomy and Japanese culture. Now she is a popular Italian Artist, known also in USA and Japan. In April 2004 she has realized thirteen paintings for Marilyn Manson’s Gold Disc (Golden Age of Grotesque), collected in the original portfolio Metamorphosis, the art of Zoe Lacchei. Her professional agreement with Marilyn Manson continues up to today. In 2007 she has realized nine new paintings for the Geisha Project. Zoe artworks are exhibited in galleries of Europe, Usa and Japan.

Zoe Lacchei, nata e cresciuta vicino Roma, dopo il liceo, piuttosto che frequentare dei regolari corsi accademici, ha preferito concentrarsi sugli argomenti che amava di più:l’anatomia umana ed animale e la cultura giapponese. Quest’ultima ha avuto una fortissima influenza sulla sua formazione. Ora è un artista molto popolare conosciuta sia negli USA che in Giappone. Eclettica, passionale, Zoe Lacchei ha pubblicato molti lavori e ha partecipato a numerose mostre in tutto il mondo. Nell’aprile 2004 ha realizzato tredici illustrazioni per il disco d’oro di Marilyn Manson (The Golden Age of Grotesque) raccolte nel portfolio ufficiale “Metamorphosis, the art of Zoe Lacchei”. Il suo rapporto professionale con Marilyn Manson continua ancora oggi. Nel 2007 ha realizzato nove illustrazioni per un nuovo progetto chiamato Geisha Project e le sue opere vengono esposte nelle gallerie di Europa, Stati Uniti e Giappone.

Paul Chatem was born in 1974 in Bellevue, Washington.

He grew up in La Crescenta, CA, a foothill town that kept itself apart from the city of Los Angeles it looked down on.

This separation between rich and poor, the lucky and the down- and-out, has always been a connecting theme and influence in his paintings.

After graduating from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1997, Paul showed his work in shows around Los Angeles.

In 2001 Paul backed off from showing to develop his work.

What came from this was a new style that combined aspects of those earlier works, taking the narrative aspects and clean lines of his comic book influences,

mixed with more painterly aspects he developed his first solid body of work.

“It Tastes like Whiskey” opened Feb. 2006 at the Black Maria Gallery in Atwater, CA.

Since then his work has been featured at The Shooting Gallery in San Francisco CA,

CoproNason Gallery in Santa Monica CA, The Bluebottle Art Gallery in Seattle WA, and has been included in many publications and group shows in North America and abroad.

Working construction to support his art, he is now working on pieces that incorporate those skills with his unique painting vision

Paul Chatem (Washington, 1974) è cresciuto a La Crescenta, California, tenendosi sempre alla larga da Los Angles.

Questa separazione tra povero e ricco, fortunato e non, è sempre stato uno dei temi principali del suo lavoro.

Well, to begin with, Marco was born in Rome in 1977. Drawing has been his passion since he was a child. He graduated from Art High School with a specialization in Artistic Photography. He spent the next few years working and opened a graphic studio with some friends. A few years later, unwillingly, he left it. His freelance graphic designer career started and he began working on the Roman hardcore-punk scene, creating posters, and designing graphics for CD covers and bands’ t-shirts. He’s happy to say he’s still working on that: an on-going passion. Between 2003 and 2004 he held exhibitions of his work in clubs, squats and minor galleries. Some of them: Crack, comix and independent publishing festival in Rome, tattoo conventions and various solo and collective exhibitions. By 2005 he concentrated on exhibitions, both in Italy and abroad (he was hosted at the True Hate Art Gallery in La Rochelle, France) and participated in touring art shows like Vinyl factory, Children no more, Whaleless and Stick my world. Now he collaborates with Mondopop International Gallery of Rome, where in 2009 he co-prepared Una Mostra per l'Abruzzo, a collective exhibition for charity, where 23 artists chosen by Marco and Mondopop worked to raise funds for people that lost their homes in the earthquake that hit the Abruzzi region in Italy in April of the same year. Marco works in various media, including graphics and illustration but his never-ending love is painting on wood. Sometimes he also enjoys using his computer, but he’s not mad about technology. He appreciates working on and with waste products and material: sometimes he finds them by chance and other times he searches painstakingly for them. He paints to satisfy himself but he wants to be always only “almost satisfied” so he keeps on going. He doesn’t want to be repetitive in his work as he doesn’t like repetitiveness. He doesn’t wish to earn a living solely through and with his art, because he thinks that it is inevitable that everyone ends up hating their job and he would be very sad if he ended up hating his own creations. So he works in a screen-printing laboratory, he plays with his band and in the duo pasta&patate (ukuleles rule!), he rides his bike, he eats too much and sleeps a lot.

Marco nasce a Roma nel 1977 e fin dalla tenera età mostra una spontanea propensione verso il disegno. Frequenta l' istituto D'Arte, si diploma in Fotografia Artistica e, dopo anni di lavori vari, fonda insieme ad alcuni amici un piccolo studio di grafica che abbandona a malincuore dopo qualche anno. Continua come grafico free lance e contemporaneamente dedica il suo tempo alla "scena punk-hardcore" della propria città, contribuendo con locandine, manifesti, grafiche per CD e t-shirt di band, attività che svolge anche oggi con molto piacere. Negli anni 2003/2004 partecipa per la prima volta a diverse esposizioni presso locali, centri sociali e piccole gallerie (tra cui Crack, festival di fumetti ed editoria indipendente, varie Tattoo Convention e altre collettive e personali). Da lì in poi la sua attività si intensifica, viene invitato a esporre in diversi spazi in Italia e all'estero (tra cui True Hate Art Gallery in Francia) e i suoi lavori cominciano a girare grazie a mostre itineranti tutt' ora in viaggio come Vynil factory, Children no more, whaleless e stick my world. Collabora abitualmente con la "Mondopop International Gallery" con cui nel 2009 organizza "Una Mostra per l'Abruzzo", una collettiva benefica di 23 artisti con lo scopo di ricavare fondi per le terre colpite dal sisma. Spazia dalla grafica all' illustrazione e predilige la pittura su legno. Non disdegna l' uso del computer, che però usa con moderazione. Ama dare nuova vita a materiali di scarto, trovati per caso o cercati scrupolosamente. L'obbiettivo di ogni creazione è la propria soddisfazione visiva, un traguardo al quale però non vuole mai arrivare. Cerca di scappare di continuo dalla ripetitività nella quale spesso si rischia di finire. Spera di non vivere mai solo della propria arte perché teme di arrivare ad odiarla, come si finisce per odiare qualsiasi impiego. Perciò lavora in una serigrafia, suona con il suo gruppo e con il duo pasta&patate (ukuele rules!), va in bici, mangia e dorme tanto.

Massimo Giacon was born in Padova in 1961. Since 1980 he works in Milan as comic author, illustrator, designer, artist and musician. He took part to the revolution of italian comics born from mags like Frigidaire, Alter, Dolce Vita, Cyborg and Nova Express. In 1985 he begin to collaborate with the italian architect Sottsass and then following his designer carreer with Thun, Studio Medini Sieger design, Olivetti, Memphis, Artemide, Alessi, Swatch, Philips, Ritzenhoff, Telecom. In 1990 he begin his artistic career, exhibiting his work in Italy, Swiss, America, Greece and Portugal.
Inthe meanwhile, he follows also his music project, publishing 2 albums.
He designed tapis, carpet, ceramics, kitchen's accessories, illustration advs, set up for international shows and animation for tv.
Massimo teachs at the European Insititute of Design in Milan. Nowadays he is olaborating as designer with Alessi, publishing new comic with Coconino press and following with his own artistic career.

Massimo Giacon nasce a Padova nel 1961. Dal 1980 lavora a Milano sospeso tra le sue diverse attività di fumettista, illustratore, designer, artista e musicista. Protagonista sin dai primi anni ’80 del rinnovamento del fumetto italiano scaturito da riviste come Frigidaire, Alter, Dolce Vita, Cyborg e Nova Express, inizia a collaborare nel 1985 con lo studio di architettura Sottsass Associati, proseguendo la sua attività nel design con collaborazioni con Matteo Thun, Studio Mendini, Sieger design, e progetti per Olivetti, Memphis, Artemide, Alessi, Swatch, Philips, Ritzenhoff, Telecom. Nel 1990 inizia un’attività artistica che l’ha portato a numerose personali e collettive in Italia, Svizzera , America , Grecia, Portogallo. Nel 1994 inizia ad occuparsi di grafica per reti telematiche, siti web, e CD-rom. Dopo un decennio di attività musicale con diversi gruppi, nel 1996 esce il suo primo album solista “Horror Vacui”, nel 2003 esce il secondo “ Nella città Ideale”. Ha disegnato inoltre arazzi, tappeti, ceramiche, oggetti per la cucina , prodotto illustrazioni pubblicitarie, collaborato con stilisti e riviste di moda (Romeo Gigli, Elle, Glamour), creato allestimenti per esposizioni internazionali, e animazioni per la televisione. Insegna a Milano all’istituto Europeo di Design. Attualmente sta sviluppando la produzione di diversi oggetti per Alessi , progettando videogiochi, disegnando fumetti per “Blue”, Baribal e Coconino Press e continuando la sua attività artistico-performativa.

Seattle artist Lisa Petrucci is best known for her cute and kitschy paintings on wood. Her art is influenced by the retro pop culture of her youth, as well as pin-up art, vintage girlie magazines, and exploitation cinema. She obsessively collects old toys, dolls, big eyed art, and kitsch which find their way into her artwork, and surrounds her subjects with vintage decorative motifs like floral fabrics, trims, and old greeting cards, creating icons that celebrate femininity and the cult of cuteness. Her paintings can be best described as naughty and nice.
Lisa's art has been shown nationally and internationally, and featured in numerous publications including Juxtapoz Magazine and the books "Kickass Kuties - the Art of Lisa Petrucci" and "Pop Surrealism: The Rise of Underground Art". She has products available from Dark Horse Comics and is also the co-owner of Something Weird Video, a nostalgic mail order video company.

Lisa Petrucci è un'artista di Seattle conosciuta in tutto il mondo per i suoi dipinti "cute & Kitschy" su legno. La sua arte è influenzata dalla cultura retrò pop della sua adolescenza, così come la pin-up art, magazines vintage per ragazze e cinema. Line Hoven was born in Bonn, Germany. After working as an assistant costume- and set designer at the Kassel State Theatre, she decided to poke her nose into something new. She ended up studying visual communication at the Art School in Kassel.
Two years later she switched to the University of Applied Sciences Hamburg to study illustration. She graduated and is now working as a freelance illustrator and comic artist. Her first graphic novel “Liebe schaut weg” ("Love looks away") won the ICOM Independent award for the best independent comic in 2008 and was nominated for the Max und Moritz-Prize 2008. She was also announced getting the 2010 e.o.plauen sponsorship award.
Besides that she sometimes sells records at Michelle Records. She lives in Hamburg with her husband Arne Bellstorf and her little son Matti.
Her work has been published into several magazines and anthologies such as:
Strapazin, Le Monde diplomatique, Panik Elektro, Orang, flitter and many others.

Line Took parte to several group show in Europe, also in the Cartoon Museum of Basel.

Born in Roma, in 2005 he graduated at the European institute of Design in Roma as illustrator and animator. Since 2003 he worked as a freelancer in Italy as cartoonist for satirical newspaper, storyborder and set designer for a movie filmed in Cinecittà and serigrapher, illustrator and graphic dsigner for italian dressing brand. After some monthes passed in Australia, he works on editorial’s projects as illustrator and writer, with the serigraphy technique design and printing on t-shirts, paper and more. Since 1996 he is a graffiti writer, he worked on many commissions for private and institutional clients in Italy and in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, France, Belgium, Swiss, Germany, Holland, Finland, Australia and Mexico. In the last years he collaborated with the University of Rome “La Sapienza” with the Faculty of zoology (for the decoration of the Entomology museum), with the organization Zerouno3nove, for the decoration of the whole train station of Appiano in Rome and other projects. Since 2001 he exhibited in Italy, Germany and Australia. His works are part of several international pubblications such as “Fadeings” by Sigmund Shlee, “Language de la rue” by graffit or “Street Sketchbook” by Tristan Manco.

Nato a Roma, nel 2005 si diploma presso l’ Istituto Europeo di Design come illustratore e cartoonist. Gio Pistone was born in Rome. She began to draw since the very beginning, first on the wall of its bedroom, Folowing on the school ones with paint. Then on table and desks of university and libraries.She decided to follow this path only once grown, and now she is very happy.

She belonged for years to the Serpeinseno collective, publishing its illustrations in childrens books, national magazines and advertising campaign.

Gio took part for the huge Scala Mercalli group show in Rome in 2008.

Gio Pistone è nata a Roma. Ivi disegnerà da subito, dapprima sui muri della camera

con i pennelli, poi su quelli dell'asilo con secchiate di colore. Capisce non troppo

presto, direi, che quella sarebbe stata la sua strada. Quindi prima soffre molto

chiusa in università e biblioteche che ancora oggi portano i segni della sua matita

annoiata.

Ora disegna è quindi è felice.

Gio è stata parte del collettivo Serpeinseno attivo per molti anni, pubblicando le

proprie illustrazioni in libri per bamibini, magazine nazionali e campagne

pubblicitarie. Nel 2008 ha partecipato alla collettiva Scala Mercalli.
