Mike Davis(1961) learned to paint by “scamming” his way into a job doing theatrical scenery; claiming he knew how to paint, when in all actuality had no idea. However, the “scam” was a success and soon Davis was going out on his own to work on various projects involving stage scenery, props, signage, model making, character costumes, etc. Eventually, he realized something was not right and had to make a change in his profession. It was in 1988 that Davis made the leap from theater related jobs to tattooing. 1992 marked the opening of Everlasting Tattoo located in San Francisco, California. Tattooing has greatly led Davis to where he is today as an artist. Tattooing served to improve his drawing skills, and lead him to consider, for the first time, that creating art could be a way to make a living. Yet, Davis’ tattoo work is very different from his paintings, deriving from different influences and subject matters. "It wasn’t until around 1999 when I began seriously painting. Over time my work has evolved in terms of my technique, mostly from studying other artist’s pieces. I have been greatly influenced by older art in general, and more specifically that of Van Eyck and Bruegel. My paintings are often a reflection of my experiences in life. Additionally my interest in history, evident from my collection of military helmet and artifacts from the Civil War and World War II, one of my greatest influences in my work and for myself is my mother".

Mike Davis (1961) ha imparato a dipingere raffinando la propria tecnica creando scenografie per il teatro, sostenendo di padronare la tecnica quando realmente non ne aveva idea. Fortunatamente il metodo ha avuto successo tanto che Mike è stato a mano mano coinvolto in nuovi porgetti per scenografie, insegne, modelli, costumi di scena ecc ecc. A questo punto realizza che ha necessità di cambiare quacosa nella sua professione. Nel 1988 Mike fa il salto dal teatro al tatuaggio e nel 1992 apre a San Francisco il suo studio Everlasting Tattoo, uno dei più famosi al mondo. E' grazie al tatuaggio che Mike ha potuto conquistare la sua attuale posizione nel mondo dell'arte. Tatuare è servito a perfezionare la propria tecnica di disegno e a pensare che la propria arte potesse essere una maniera per guadagnarsi da vivere. Attualmente il lavoro di Mike come tatuatore è diverso dai suoi dipinti, derivando da diverse influenze e trattandosi di soggetti molto differenti. "Ho cominciatoa dipingere seriamente nel 1999 e con il tempo il mio lavoro si è evoluto in termini di tecnica, soprattutto grazie allo studio dei lavori di altri artisti. Sono estremamente influenzato dall'arte del passato, soprattutto da Van Eyek e Bruegel. I miei dipinti sono spesso una rappresentazione delle mie esperienze nella vita di tutti i giorni. Oltre al mio interesse per la storia, evidente anche per la mia collezione di elmetti e artefatti della Guerra Civile e dalla Seconda Guerra Mondiale, una delle più grandi influenze resta mia madre".
