Julie West will take part ot the Urban Superstar Show 2010.
Julie West (1975) spent her childhood taking art classes and volunteering at a local art gallery. She then went on to study art and graduated with a BFA in Illustration in 1998 from Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Julie started out as a traditional media artist - using primarily acrylic, gouache, and technical pens. After spending a few years working as a print and web designer, various computer and design related elements began to surface in her work. Now her work is created with traditional means about half of the time - the rest being digital or a combination of the two. Her work relies heavily on people and environments. Often quirky, bizarre, or ironic, Julie looks heavily at the way people live and define themselves, as well as the environments which they create for themselves. Studying these details, often reveals the unique moments that make us human. After moving to England in 2005, Julie now spends her days in her studio. She collaborated with mags and company such as Wired, Nike, Footlockr, Sun MicroSystems and LA Weekly. Her work is part of Pictoplasma “The Character Encyclopaedia”.
Julie West (1975) ha speso la sua infanzia tra lezione di arte e volontariato presso la galleria d'arte locale. Nel 1998 ha conseguito il BFA presso il Milwakee Institute of Art & Design. Julie ha inziato ultilizzando media tradizionali come acrilici, gouache e penna. Avendo lavorato diversi anni come web designer, alcuni elementi di questa materia comincia ad affiorare nei suoi lavori. Attualmente una metà dei suoi lavori sono creati attraverso i media tradizionali mentre per il resto lavora con il digitale o la combinazione delle due diverse tecniche. Le sue opere sono estremamente influenzate dall'ambiente e dalle persone: spesso il bizzarro, strano o ironico modo di vivere delle persone o di coe queste si autodefiniscono viene analizzato dall'artista, così come l'ambiente creato da queste. Studiando questi dettagli, Julie riproduce quei momenti unici che ci rendono "umani". Nel 2005 Julie si trasferisce in Inghilterra, dove lavora e vive attualmente. Ha collaborato con magazines e grandi compagnie come Wired, Nike, Footlocker, Sun MicroSystems e LA Weekly. Il suo lavoro fa parte del catalogo Pictoplasma “The Character Encyclopaedia”.
